  • Eating out in Guilin

Even if I like Chinese food, I have to admit that sometimes I am tried of eating rice all the time (well, not all the time, but pretty often ;-) ). Thanks to my colleagues and my friends in Guilin I get to know more and more places where one gets western food. Of course, you can't compare it to what you are used to, but after some time it will be an apreciatedchange to get italian noodels or a pizza....More>>

  • Traveling Southwest of Hunan province in Flower misty March

Traveling Southwest of Hunan province in Flower misty March

In late March, I was so lucky to have chance to explore southwest of Hunan province, my colleagues and me, we drove car by ourselves, on the long way, we driving or stopping, absolutely enjoying the wild trip which we want to discover. It was like a dream to come true, or adventure, anyway, it was my first time to experience such kind of trip, I was like a young child to find everything with full of curiosity, I tried my best to feel and touch all with my eyes, nose and heartthen I found life is just experience or a long trip, you never know next stop or scenic spot, without any hesitation, just go ahead and let it be. I think I learned a lot from the trip, not only enjoying the trip very much, but I understand traveling deeply....More>>

  • How to get along with those spices??

How to get along with those spices??

When I arrived in Guilin, I had close to no experience with spicy food. I just knew one thing: I did not like it a lot! And I was not prepared formostly getting spicy food in Guilin.. And the spices here are a lot stronger than what I ever had eaten before. But as I did not want to be impolite, I tried everything and ate most of the dishes that were offered. In the end I usually had the feeling that my mouth was burning and could not taste anything anymore for some time. But I am getting used to it and after four weeks here I have to admit that I start to like it. :-) As a tip for tourists who get very spicy food by bad luck: Use the tea, put some in your cup and wash the fish, vegetables or meat in it before eating. This is accepted by Chinese people and allows you to get to know the good traditionalfood! :-)...More>>

  • A weekend in Yangshuo

    A weekend in Yangshuo

When my friend Flo called me to tell me that he would come and visit me for the weekend, I was very excited. We decided to visit Yangshuo, a city close to Guilin, as the nature there was said to be very beautiful. So on Saturday morning we took the cruise ship to get to Yangshuo. The tour was during four hours and included a Western-Chinese lunch buffet. As the sun was shining we spent most of the time on top of the boat to enjoy the mountains surrounding us and to take pictures. It was a very enjoyable time. Arriving in Yangshuo, we nearly were overrun by elderly women offering bamboo boat tours, flowers or bike tours (Wo bu yao! means I dont want that!). ...More>>

  • 4 Days Hong Kong

    4 Days Hong Kong

Also called, the Oriental Pearl, I was looking forward to spend 4 days in Hong Kong. Looking back I have to admit that the shopping malls, stores and small shops have been most impressing to me as a shopping freakJ. Every place I visited was full of temptations to spend my money on. Very funny was the Ladies Market close to the Nathan Road (Kowloon), where buyers have to be good bargainees, too. And an impressive mall is The Landmark, a shopping center full of luxury stores like Prada, TiffanysCo or Tods....More>>
